Baby showers are traditionally dark and full of terrors … oh, they aren’t? Well, someone didn’t tell Melisandre.
Caprice van Houten, who plays the red woman on HBO’s Game of Thrones, appeared in a segment from Thursday’s episode of The Late Show With Seth Meyers that imagined what it would be like if Melisandre attended a baby shower. The result is pretty much as darkly humorous as you would expect.
Providing useful advice to the expecting mother such as, “Clutch your child close to your breast, woman. For the night is dark and full of terrors,” and, “Pray that it’s a son so the Lord of Light can look down upon him with favor.” And if it’s a girl? “Lock it away in a dark tower forever and hope it’s not consumed by grayscale.”
Sure, that may seem like inappropriate behavior for a baby shower, but Melisandre’s making sure that child will be ready for anything, including the remote chance that they find themselves in a fictional reality filled with dragons and white walkers.
But hey, at least she also drops a reference to the status of Jon Snow, although it’s just as coy and vague as everything else we’ve heard so far.
