‘The Walking Dead’ Season 8 Production Shut Down Due To On-Set Injury

UPDATE: TMZ reports that John Bernecker has passed away in hospital as a result of the injuries he sustained. He was 33.

Original Story: Production on Season 8 of AMC’s The Walking Dead has been temporarily shut down after a stuntman suffered life-threatening injuries due to an on-set accident.

“We are saddened to report that John Bernecker, a talented stuntman for The Walking Dead and numerous other television shows and films, suffered serious injuries from a tragic accident,” AMC said in a statement. “He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital, and we have temporarily shut down production. We are keeping John and his family in our thoughts and prayers.”

Deadline reports that Bernecker fell 30 feet onto a concrete floor and sustained a life-threatening head injury. According to an update on the original report, Bernecker has lost all brain function and is now on life support. His family are reportedly making preparations.

“We have been informed of a serious injury to a SAG-AFTRA member on the set of The Walking Dead and are investigating the situation,” union SAG-AFTRA said in a statement. “As always, the safety and security of our members and others on set is of crucial concern to us and we are focused on this in our investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the performer and his family.”’
