Like any fanbase, The Walking Dead has its share of weirdos, both harmless and terrifying. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays bat-wielding villain Negan, is still adjusting to the realities of playing one of the most popular characters on television and as he revealed on Tuesday’s episode of The Howard Stern Show, getting strange messages from fans who have a difficult time understanding that he plays a fictional character on TV.
“It’s mostly women who I get really weird fan mail from,” he said. “Like, they just want to be, I don’t know, gagged and tied up and beat on a little bit.” However, Morgan noted that it’s not just women who have been acting weird around him. “I see [men] come up and size themselves up next to me, kind of puffing out their chest.”
Morgan also discussed the impact playing Negan has had on his home life, revealing that his six-year-old son — who, it must be stressed, does not watch the show — has started acting like a chip off the old barbed wire bat. “He comes bounding out of the chicken coop and he’s dressed full Negan with the baseball bat.” Fortunately, it seems his son was able to resist beating the chickens into goo.
We just pictured a six-year-old running around in mini Negan garb with a tiny barbed wire bat and it was adorably terrifying.
