The 92nd Academy Awards will not have a host for the second straight year.
Earlier today, while speaking at TCA, ABC’s Entertainment President, Karey Burke, discussed the Academy’s decision to go without a host once again.
“Together with the Academy, we have decided there will be no traditional host, repeating for us what worked last year. [It will have] huge entertainment values, big musical numbers, comedy, and star power.”
In 2019, Kevin Hart was supposed to host the show but ended up stepping down after controversy surrounding homophobic tweets from his past resurfaced. With little time to find a replacement and nobody willing to step in, the Oscars opted to go without a host for the first time in 30 years and to everyone’s surprise, rating went up significantly.
In 2018, Jimmy Kimmel hosting the show, ratings hit an all-time low but the following year, without a host, the awards show saw a 12% increase in viewers, becoming the most-watched non-sports show on TV since the 2017 Oscars.
