The High Sparrow Might Have Accidentally Let a Big ‘Game of Thrones’ Spoiler Slip Out

So it should go without saying that this post contains potential spoilers. We mean, it’s right there in the headline — “Big Game of Thrones Spoiler.” But since people will always whine about us spoiling things, there’s your final warning.

The conflict between the Lannisters and the High Sparrow is quickly coming to a head. In the last episode, Cersei and Jamie suggest to the Tyrells that the two families join forces to rid King’s Landing of the Faith Militant. It also featured a scene where the High Sparrow and King Tommen had a private chat about… something.

The topic of that conversation is open to a lot of speculation, and one Redditor has a theory.

“It’s my belief that the High Sparrow told Tommen about the Tyrells’ involvement in Joffrey’s murder. Judging by the tears in his eyes when he’s about to tell Cersei, it seemed to be the worst possible news. I believe it’s Ser Loras who revealed this information as he seemed absolutely broken by his solitary confinement.

Immediately after Tommen tells her the news, Cersei and Jaime show up to the small council with a plan to invite the Tyrell army into King’s Landing to deal with the Seven and protect Margaery from a talk of atonement. I believe this is a ruse by Cersei to draw the Tyrells into her scheme.”

While one random fan theory doesn’t really mean much, when coupled with this interview by Jonathan Pryce, the man who plays the High Sparrow, it could actually have some meaning. The original text has been translated from Polish, so please forgive the Engrish.

Everyone is waiting impatiently for the process of Cersei, which will be held in Sepcie. They will present it literally everyone. My character has lost some vigilance – is firmly convinced that Cersei appear at his request. When the messengers informed him that he had not left his house, still he believes that will come to the process, because in his opinion should be there. Meanwhile, behind him, and in the immediate vicinity, last scheming and intrigue chasing intrigue. Tension gradually builds up when the giant Sept fills slowly people – great sparrow is still pleased with the turn of events and is confident that everything is going according to plan. No suspects that the fate in store for him a very unpleasant surprise…

Pryce is teasing that the Sparrows are in for a very “unpleasant surprise.” Since viewers are already aware of the potential plan to have the Tyrell army storm King’s Landing, that means that something else must be planned too.

The theory that is gaining traction is that Cersei plans to use the upcoming conflict not only as a way to get rid of the Faith Militant, but also to enact revenge on the Tyrells for helping murder her son Joffrey. That means that Margery and Olenna could also end up dead when the dust settles, if Cersei gets her way.

Here’s one Redditor’s take on the jumbled interview with Pryce:

in this interview jonathan pryce says that when cersei’s trial happens… high sparrow and everyone else is waiting in the sept of baelor for cersei to show up. and the high sparrow is very certain for cersei to show up and so is everyone else. no one expects that something very unpleasant is about to happen.

i’m guessing in this scene, it will be like the red wedding again. the doors to the sept of abelor [sic] be locked and on cersei’s orders qyburn will burn the entire place with wildfire.

Goodbye Sparrows. And maybe, goodbye Tyrells?
