The 2016 Golden Globe nominations have been unveiled and they’re filled with a great mix of usual suspects and total surprises. Of course, like any year, there are loads of movies, TV shows, and performances that didn’t make the cut and while most of these snubs are entirely justified, there are certain areas where the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) simply got it wrong. For the most part, the 2016 list is much stronger than in previous years, with some nominations that truly came out of left field, but it’s still shocking that the following potential nominees were robbed of a nomination.
10. Jessica Jones — Best TV Series, Drama
Comic book adaptations in general aren’t shown much love by awards shows like the Golden Globes, which is understandable considering they’re not the most highbrow entertainment offerings out there. Still, comic book TV grew up quite a bit in 2015, with Marvel’s Netflix Original series Jessica Jones standing out as one of the strongest new shows of the year. A gripping, powerful drama with a strong cast led by a sensational performance from Krysten Ritter in the title role, Jessica Jones gave perhaps the best argument yet for superhero programming to be taken seriously, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t on the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s radar.
