Netflix’s ‘Luke Cage’ Will Add Two New Comic Characters in Season Two

Sometimes we’re not sure how we feel about Netflix’s own little independent Marvel universe. Some of the series have been great (Daredevil, Jessica Jones) while others have been pretty bad (Iron Fist). Somewhere in the middle lies Luke Cage, which started out great but lost some storytelling steam about three-quarters of the way through the first season.

Regardless, Luke Cage (the character) will return in 2017’s The Defenders mash-up and again sometime in 2018 for Season Two of his own show. Speaking of Season Two, it was recently confirmed that two old Marvel characters will make their on-screen debut when Luke Cage returns to Netflix.

Mustafa Shakir has signed on to play John “Bushmaster” McIver, and Gabrielle Denis joins the cast as Tilda “Nightshade” Johnson. Comic fans will know that Bushmaster is an incredibly strong crime boss that was featured in the Power Man storylines, where he blackmailed Luke Cage. Nightshade is a brilliant scientist and also a villain. Her resume includes attempting to take down Captain America with werewolves (yes, seriously) and bringing an army of robots into Harlem to fight Cage and Iron Fist.

The Defenders premieres on August 18, 2017, while Season Two of Jessica Jones, Season Three of DareDevil, and the debut season of The Punisher are likely going to be 2018 releases (or later). Hopefully Iron Fist gets a lot better (or maybe just cancelled altogether).
