Netflix Releases Trailer For Controversal New Series ‘Dear White People’

The announcement that Netflix was adapting the 2014 film Dear White People into an original series sparked controversy when it was first announced, and even let to some cries from some conservative leaning citizens to cancel Netflix and boycott the streaming service. Their efforts clearly weren’t enough, though, as the first trailer for Netflix’s new series hit the internet today.

Dear White People is a fictional dramatic series that aims to satire “post-racial America” as minority students attend a mostly caucasion Ivy League college. The series is obviously fake, but will touch on some of the real world racial issues that have divided humans in recent years, specifically cultural appropriation, interracial relationships, the legitimacy of being offended, and freedom of speech.

The series hits Netflix on April 28.
