Game Of Thrones Will Film Multiple False Endings To Combat Leaked Spoilers

Hoping to avoid the situation it found itself in with plot details leaking prior to the airing of Game of Thrones’ seventh season, HBO plans to shoot multiple endings for the series finale.

“I know in Game of Thrones, the ending, they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really know what happens,” said Casey Bloys, HBO’s president of programming (via The Morning Call). “You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.”

This move comes after multiple leaks during Season 7, including the season’s fourth episode, “Spoils of War,” being released early by one of HBO’s distribution partners. Prior to the season even airing, hackers uploaded drafts for five of the season’s seven episodes.

Production on Game of Thrones’ eighth season — which will be its last — is expected to begin next month and could run for as long as 10 months. As such, HBO has yet to announce a date for the Season 8 premiere, as the long production may push the show into a 2019 air date.
