Bill Cosby Statue At Walt Disney World To Be Torn Down

It seems that Bill Cosby’s image as a warm, fatherly figure in American culture is all-but-officially at an end, as the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida is removing a bust of Cosby from their Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame Plaza amid the recent release of damning court testimony from 2005 in which Cosby admitted to having drugged numerous women with Quaaludes in order to have sex with them.

Disney’s actions are the latest development in the former comedy icon’s highly-publicized fall from public favor, which began in earnest last year after numerous women went public with rape allegations against Cosby.  There are now at least 45 women who have come forward and despite Cosby’s repeated protestations of innocence, the surfacing of the court testimony appears to be proof enough of Cosby’s guilt for large corporations like Disney to take firm action. In addition to Disney, businesses such as NBC, Bounce TV, and a restaurant in Washington D.C. that had featured a large mural of the actor, have all severed ties with Cosby.

The statue is set to be torn down tonight, but plans to remove it have been in motion for awhile, as Brittany Gavrilova, the niece of one of Cosby’s alleged victims, circulated a petition calling on Disney to get rid of the statue. Disney, for their part, have yet to confirm what prompted the decision to remove the statue.
