REPORT: Samsung Galaxy S8 Won’t Have A 3.5mm Headphone Jack

It looks like Apple won’t be the only major smartphone producer catching heat for ditching the ubiquitous 3.5mm headphone jack, as SamMobile is reporting that Samsung is removing the jack from the Galaxy S8, which be unveiled in February.

Like the iPhone 7, this means that any headphones with a 3.5mm connection will not be compatible with the device unless you use a USB Type-C adapter, as the Galaxy S8 will have a USB Type-C port. This also means you won’t be able to use traditional wired headphones with the S8 when it is plugged in.

Although many Android users will likely take issue with Samsung’s decision, removing the 3.5mm jack will come with some advantages. Samsung will be able to make the S8 thinner, while also freeing up space internally to allow for a bigger battery. There are also reports that Samsung may integrate stereo speakers made by Harman with the device, as Samsung is in the midst of acquiring the company for $8 billion.

Please note that Samsung has not confirmed whether or not the S8 will come without a headphone jack, so treat this as a (very likely) rumor for now.
