Triple H Claims That Roman Reigns is Already a Heel, Even If Fans Don’t Realize It Yet

Roman Reigns is a curiosity in today’s WWE. He has constantly (and we do mean constantly) been shoved down fan’s throats as “The Guy.” Actually, he literally tried to use that as his catch phrase for a while, before pivoting over to the “it’s my yard” schitck. Despite various ringside commentators pushing the idea that the fans are behind Reigns, anyone with a pulse and a working set of ears can hear that he is routinely booed at live events and on television.

The simple fact is, for whatever reason, the fans just don’t like him. And yet the WWE has refused to give him a traditional heel turn, even though they booked him against one of the all-time biggest babyfaces in The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33.

In this new wrestling era of “tweener” characters that aren’t 100 percent good OR 100 percent bad, Reigns remains an oddity. However, if you ask Triple H, Reigns has been a legit heel for a while. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, the man with a lot of backstage power says that it’s pretty clear the turn has already happened, even if gradually.

“People can look at Roman Reigns and say, ‘The failed attempt that is Roman Reigns,’ but Roman Reigns sells tickets,” said Levesque. “Roman Reigns gets one of the loudest reactions every night, whether that reaction is a boo or whether that reaction is a cheer. The fans who say, ‘I don’t understand why they don’t turn Roman Reigns heel!’ Isn’t he already?

“If you believe what you believe, and you’re saying, ‘How can they not turn him heel? There is 70 percent of the crowd booing him out of the building!’ If that’s your belief, then isn’t he already the biggest heel we have? If 70 percent of that crowd is booing him, then he’s a heel. We’re just presenting him to you in a different way that makes you hate him.”

Hmmmmm, come to think of it, he’s right. Fans boo Roman Reigns, and he plays off it. Sounds like a heel to us!
