Tom Brady’s Stolen Super Bowl Jersey Has Been Found (Plus Another Surprise Find)

In all the hoopla and celebrations following the New England Patriots’ miracle comeback in Super Bowl 51, one of the stranger stories was that Tom Brady had his game-worn jersey stolen right out of the locker room afterwards. Even with teammates looking for it, the jersey didn’t turn up. Brady himself joked that it would probably end up on eBay or something.

The NFL released a statement on Monday morning, saying that the jersey had been recovered after an investigation by the league in partnership with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies. The stolen jersey was apparently taken by a credentialed member of the international media. The really bizarre thing is that authorities also uncovered Brady’s game-worn jersey from Super Bowl 49, which no one even knew was missing.

The two jerseys represent Brady’s record-tying fourth and record-breaking fifth Super Bowl wins, respectively. The Super Bowl 51 jersey has been valued at approximately $200,000 by sports memorabilia experts. It’s unclear whether the recovered jerseys will be given back to Brady for his personal collection, or if they might end up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, or on display at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
