The 900th episode of Smackdown was a heavily-promoted event featuring the returns of Edge and The Undertaker, as well as a great Intercontinental Title match between The Miz and Dolph Ziggler, and it was also the final show before Survivor Series. The fact that it wasn’t facing off against the MLB playoffs or election coverage was also a boon, and it helped Smackdown Live to a massive jump in the ratings. Overall, the show pulled in 2.73 million viewers and a 0.95 rating in the 18-49 demographic, the best since the second post-Draft episode. To make things even better for the blue brand, Raw this week only managed 2.88 million viewers and a 0.98 rating, which means that Smackdown nearly matched the flagship show’s ratings. Obviously, the fact that it was a special episode probably helped that, but regardless, Smackdown finished second for the evening among original cable programming, behind ESPN’s College Football Rankings show.
