Report: Brock Lesnar’s Return To The UFC Is “Imminent”

The first rumors that Brock Lesnar was considering a return to the UFC came from… well, some guy on Twitter. So we’re not entirely sure how reliable that information is.

Newly crowned UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been teasing a matchup with Lesnar, even calling him out in the octagon after beating Daniel Cormier at UFC 214. Now Sports Illustrated is reporting that Lesnar’s return to mixed martial arts is basically a done deal.

From has learned that Lesnar’s return to the UFC is imminent, and he will fight Jones as well as fulfill his WWE obligations at the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 34. This all affects the upcoming SummerSlam, as the likelihood that Lesnar keeps the WWE Universal championship, or takes any punishing moves, is all but dimmed, which is another reason he will be hidden in this Fatal 4-Way with Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns, and Samoa Joe.

Lesnar is still required to enter into the USADA drug testing pool for at least six months before he can resume fighting in the UFC, which would also satisfy the remaining six months of the one-year suspension he received for failing multiple drug tests after his UFC 200 bout with Mark Hunt. That means that even if he re-joined the drug testing pool today, he wouldn’t be eligible to fight in the UFC until the end of January.

Lesnar’s WWE contract is set to expire after WrestleMania 34 in April. The last time his wrestling deal expired, rumors were rampant that we would return to the UFC. He basically played the two companies off each other to get a better deal from the WWE, one that pays him extremely well and requires a minimal amount of actual work.

Sure, Lesnar’s return to the UFC could be imminent, like SI is reporting. Or it could just be a massive negotiating tactic.
