The longest reigning WWE Universal Champion of all time was on ESPN Sportscenter this week, and since he’s obviously planning to hold the title for a very long time, he was asked who he would want to face at WrestleMania 33. Unsurprisingly, Owens only has one name on his list:
“I want Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. It’s as simple as that.”
Frankly, wanting to face Lesnar at all is pretty brave, but when you consider that the last guy to face him ended up with 10 staples in his head and a concussion, it now takes an additional level of guts to want that for your WrestleMania moment. Personally, we want to see one more round of Owens vs Sami Zayn, but we can understand why Owens wouldn’t want him as an opponent. It’s because you know you can’t beat Sami, right, Kevin? Admit it!
Anyway, Owens vs Lesnar isn’t as far-fetched as it seems, because currently they are on the same brand, and with Roman Reigns currently set up as US Champion and Seth Rollins penciled in to face Triple H at WrestleMania, there aren’t a lot of other big matchups left for the current Universal Champion. Of course, WrestleMania is months away, and the title picture can change on a dime these days. Might we also suggest that Owens not forget the man who was Universal Champion before him, and who is expected back in time for Mania?
