Kevin Owens vs. Brock Lesnar is a matchup that wrestling fans have been wanting for a while. Even Owens himself has publicly campaigned for a big PPV matchup with The Beast Incarnate. In what can best be described as a “half-measure,” the two finally met in a one-on-one matchup over the weekend, except it was during an untelevised house show at Madison Square Garden.
When the match was originally announced, the WWE advertised it as a Universal Title shot for Lesnar. Since Owens has since lost the belt to Goldberg, obviously there was no championship on the line in New York City. That doesn’t mean the two couldn’t still tear down the house for those fans who paid their hard-earned money to come watch, right?
The whole thing lasted about two minutes, with Lesnar dominating Owens in every way. Multiple suplexes and an F5 made short work of the former Universal champ. Sure, it builds Lesnar up again for his WrestleMania match with Goldberg — especially since the new Universal Champion has basically owned Lesnar since arriving in the WWE last summer. But what a waste of a great main event.
