Kenny Omega Gives the Final Word on Seth Rollins “Stealing” His Move as a New Finisher

Seth Rollins can never settle on a single finishing move for very long. Now that he’s “borrowed” (aka stole) a move from NJPW star Kenny Omega, the internet is abuzz about the blatant theft.

Rollins originally used the Curb Stomp as his finisher, but the WWE eventually banned it entirely as part of their initiative to limit blows to the head. Ironically, he then began using the Pedigree (which is also kind of banned) when he aligned himself with Triple H, only to abandon it after finally “slaying the king” at WrestleMania 33.

His new move, which is appropriately dubbed “The Kingslayer,” is a spinning wrist lock into a jumping knee to the face. It’s the same move that Kenny Omega used his critically praised match against Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 11.

When Rollins first debuted the move on Raw, Omega posted a couple of thinly veiled subtweets about the situation:

Apparently that wasn’t enough, and some fans still insisted that Omega must be upset about Rollins and the WWE ripping off something he sort of created. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Omega clarified that he’s not angry at all, and actually considers it a compliment.

“If he was inspired by my match to add that to his arsenal, it’s a great compliment. A finishing move is an important part of one’s character–and sometimes success. So for him, being a top guy in WWE, it’s cool that he chose something that I’d used earlier in the year during my match with Okada.

As for the tweet, a lot of guys don’t know that I used to travel with Rollins all of the time in ROH. We never became the closest of friends, but we’re definitely cool with each other and the mutual respect has always been there. If I was legitimately angry, I’d just flat out say so. I’m not one to shy away from speaking my mind.”

There you have it. The beef (which never existed in the first place) is officially settled.
