Is Michael Cole Planning A Move To Backstage Role?

Whether you like him or hate him, Michael Cole has been the lead voice of the WWE announce team for a long time now, and in that time, he has built up some power backstage that seems like it could see Raw’s head play-by-play man move backstage in the near future. According to rumors, Cole may be looking to step away from the mic and into more of a management role, helping to train the next generation of announcers and working in other aspects of production. This would likely explain the recent expansion of WWE’s core group of announcers to include Austin Aries, Tom Phillips, Percy Watson down in NXT, , the high-profile signing of Mauro Ranallo a year ago (which many felt was the first sign of WWE searching for Cole’s eventual replacement), the four-man booth currently running on Smackdown (possibly in anticipation of Mauro moving to Raw), and most recently signing Nigel McGuinness to a commentary position. The feeling is that a big shuffle in the announce teams is on its way, likely following WrestleMania, giving Cole a chance to step back into a bigger role backstage.
