Georges St-Pierre: I’ll Retire For Good If I Don’t Win Comeback Fight

Fans of Canadian MMA legend Georges St-Pierre are still anxiously awaiting for news of when the former UFC champion will actually step foot in the octagon again (and who he will fight, for that matter). However, GSP’s first fight back after four years away from competition could be his last.

On a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, St-Pierre touched on a few different issues. First, he opened up about why his fight with Michael Bisping (which was confirmed by the UFC, and then later yanked off the table by Dana White) might not happen. It was going to go down in late Summer, but an eye injury will keep GSP out until probably October or November.

Of course, the fight might still happen. Bisping’s own injuries have forced the UFC into making an interim title fight between Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker at UFC 213. So perhaps GSP vs. Bisping will still happen in October or November, with the winner getting an immediate date with the interim champ. However, St-Pierre dropped a bit of a bombshell by revealing that if he doesn’t win his comeback fight, whether it’s against Bisping or not, he plans to simply retire for good.

Dana White had previously told the media that GSP will not get the Bisping fight, but various injury recovery timelines may (once again) alter the UFC’s plans. Meanwhile, St-Pierre is still on a 12-fight win streak dating back a massive 10 years (although he hasn’t been active for the last three and a half). If the 36-year-old doesn’t get his arm raised, whenever he does manage to fight again, it sounds like that could be the end of one of MMA’s most successful and dominant careers.

Here’s the entire episode of The MMA Hour. GSP’s segment is around the 2:21:00 mark.
