Dwight Howard Gets Ejected For Hanging on the Rim, Only For the NBA to Apologize Right After

The Atlanta Hawks and the Boston Celtics had a bit of a heated contest on Monday night, as both teams contiue to jockey for position near the top of the NBA’s Eastern Conference (but below the Cleveland Cavaliers, obviously). The Celtics currently hold the second seed in the conference, while the Hawks are a few games back in fifth.

In the third quarter of a close game, Atlanta big man Dwight Howard was on the receiving end of a hard foul from Celtics center Al Horford. As Howard was walking away from the scene, he gave Horford a decent shove in the chest, picking up a well-deserved technical foul.

Here’s the play:

Just five minutes later in the quarter, Howard unleashed some frustration on the rim after grabbing a loose rebound. Somehow, the refs felt his aggression was worthy of another technical foul and therefore an ejection, sending him to the showers early. The look on his face really says it all, as he can barely believe what just happened.

WOW! Howard got ejected for that?! Second tech, but still…

Fortunately for the trigger happy official, the Hawks would go on to win the game 114-98, which makes Howard’s ejection less of a story. Nonetheless, the NBA was quick to release an official statement after the game confirming that Howard should not have been issued that second technical foul or ejected from the game.
