Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and incredibly popular Superstar Daniel Bryan has officially announced his retirement from in-ring competition in a post on Twitter this afternoon.
Due to medical reasons, effective immediately, I am announcing my retirement. Tonight on Raw, I'll have a chance to elaborate. #gratitude

Bryan’s most recent injury, which was thought to be concussion-related, led to WWE doctors refusing to medically clear him for in-ring competition. While Bryan reportedly found outside doctors who said he was healthy enough to continue working, WWE refused to change their opinion unless Bryan could be cleared internally, which was reportedly a near impossibility. WWE has been under intense scrutiny recently over their medical treatment of Superstars, including a class action lawsuit filed by several former employees over how their concussions were handled while employed there.
Daniel Bryan is expected to appear on Raw tonight to address his situation, and hopefully, his future in WWE.
