Dana White and Conor McGregor Strike a Deal for Mayweather Fight

We are one step closer to having the biggest MMA vs. boxing fight in the history of combat sports.

The Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fight was long considered to be a joke. Nothing but a lot of hype with zero substance, designed to keep their names in the headlines between fights (or in Mayweather’s case, just to fuel his retired ego).

But every passing week, the pieces seem to be slowly falling together. It’s gotten to the point where it looks like McGregor vs. Mayweather might actually happen. Not just that, but it could happen in the next six months! Another one of the biggest hurdles was recently toppled, with the confirmation that McGregor has come to an agreement with Dana White and the UFC over the terms of the potential superfight. Since McGregor is still under UFC contract, this was an important step.

“It’s either going to happen this year or it’s never gonna happen at all,” White said, according to Fancy Combat. “This isn’t something that I’m gonna spend a bunch of time on, like I’m not gonna dedicate the next three months of my life on it. Conor wants to fight twice this year and one of those fights is Floyd if possible.”

Floyd has routinely claimed that he doesn’t get out of bed for less than $100 million. Even if McGregor has agreed to take less money, an estimated $50 million payday would still be the biggest of his career. Regardless of the final numbers, it sounds like it’s a done deal, as far as the UFC is concerned.

“We’re right there,” said White during the UFC 211 post-fight press conference. “I’m expecting an executed agreement tomorrow. Then I’ll start working with Team Mayweather next week.”

Mayweather can be notoriously tricky to deal with, as he tends to make a lot of demands. However, if White can lock down the Mayweather side of the agreement, it’s entirely possible that we’ll see McGregor vs. Mayweather sometime before the end of 2017.
