Chris Jericho on Conor McGregor Eventually Coming to WWE: “It’s a No-Brainer”

Conor McGregor may have lost the “superfight” with Floyd Mayweather, but in the process he also made more than enough money to never have to work again if he doesn’t want to. He has suggested he will go back to the UFC and defend the lightweight title, but nothing has been confirmed. In reality, his next move is completely up in the air. It’s entirely possible he will never fight again.

One of the options in front of him would be an appearance in WWE. Even though he’s not trained as a legit pro wrestler, McGregor’s uncanny ability to talk trash and cut promos (plus his name value) would be a major addition to WWE programming, even it was only for a short program (say, the three months leading up to WrestleMania, for example).

McGregor has teased wrestling audiences before, putting the sport on blast on his Twitter account, causing many famous WWE superstars to clap back. Of course, that was exactly what he wanted, since it kept his name in the headlines.

Semi-retired former WWE champion Chris Jericho thinks it’s just a matter of time. During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Y2J said that seeing McGregor in the WWE at point just feels inevitable.

“Will Conor McGregor end up in the WWE? I think it’s a no-brainer. It might not be this year or the year after that because there’s a lot of money that you got to spend to get him in there. But a guy that yappy, who knows the concept of cutting a wrestling promo … I think Conor will definitely end up there, it’s just a matter of when he wants to.”

McGregor has made it very clear that he’s willing to consider any offer, for the right price. Can the WWE come up with an offer that will catch the Irishman’s eye? It’s hard to say, considering he just made $100+ million in his professional boxing debut. Then again, the WWE has shown their willingness to overpay an athlete for a tiny work schedule in the way they handle Brock Lesnar. So who knows?
