Carmelo Anthony: I Have No Idea What The Knicks Are Doing

You and everyone else, Melo.

During Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, there were plenty of rumors swirling that the Knicks might try to move one (or both) of Carmelo Anthony or Derrick Rose. Whatever happened behind the scenes, neither star was traded and the Knicks basically did nothing. Both fans and players were confused, since the Knicks are 12 games below .500 and would need a miracle to make the playoffs this season.

Carmelo Anthony was the most vocal about the lack of deals. Ian Begley of ESPN spoke with Anthony after the deadline and asked the All-Star if he understood what management was trying to accomplish in the long-term.

“No, not now. No, to be honest with you,” Anthony replied. “I think they were kind of planning on the trade deadline, whether they were trying to make moves. I think that was one plan. Now they’ve got to get back to the drawing board and come up with another plan about the future of this team.”

Anthony also revealed that the Knicks never actually approached him about a potential trade, which would be necessary due to his strict no-trade clause. So it’s unlikely that the Knicks ever got close to hammering out a deal, despite the rumors spreading around the internet like wild fire. Anthony admitted it that it was tough being kept in the dark about what the team was trying to do, especially when it might have included being sent to a (player approved) new team.

“Yeah, I mean, nobody likes to be in limbo,” Anthony said. “We all want to know kind of what’s going on, especially when it’s involving you. But that’s not the way it is in sports. I don’t think I’m the only one that’s going through that or feeling that way.”

So the trade deadine has come and gone, and the Knicks still stink. But hey, at least James Dolan and Charles Oakley aren’t fighting anymore, right?
