Current NXT trainer and former half of the New Age Outlaws, Billy Gunn, was reportedly fired today by WWE for failing a drug test at a powerlifting event in July. WWE was allegedly not aware of Gunn’s recent venture into powerlifting, or the failed test, until recently. Gunn tested positive for extremely elevated levels of testosterone, at a level that was nearly ten times the allowed ratio for powerlifting. He was also suspended for four years from competitive powerlifting events.
Gunn, 52, was a multiple-time Tag Team Champion as an active wrestler, and had been employed by WWE as a trainer in their developmental system since 2012. He had recently appeared as a trainer on both the Tough Enough and Breaking Ground programs, and also made special appearances at NXT live events.
