Life in general is a miracle and it took a very specific set of circumstances in order for it even exist in the first place, but forget all of that for a moment because according to a new study, the universe itself has no business being a thing either.
As Cosmos Magazine reports (via IGN), a European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) study has recently discovered evidence that there is a perfect symmetry between matter and antimatter. Why does that matter? Well, it means that it’s not clear why they didn’t destroy each other when the universe was born.
CERN’s study set out to find whether different magnetic properties accounted for matter’s seeming victory after the Big Bang, but found the point of symmetry instead. Basically, CERN scientists are claiming that these findings suggest there shouldn’t be a universe at all.
As a next step, CERN want to further examine anti-protons in the hope of finding some difference in their behaviour compared to regular protons. Scientists are also looking into the possibility that antimatter has a reversed gravity.
Of course, there’s always the possibility that we’re living in the Matrix … except that science also recently dispelled that theory too.
Stupid fake universe.
