Jared Fogle had his day in court and it did not end well for the former Subway spokesman.
Fogle had previously plead guilty as part of a plea deal, hoping to receive the lowest possible sentence. Before the judge handed down the punishment, Fogle’s lawyers bizarrely tried to claim that their client suffered from “hyper sexuality” as a result of losing weight. They also described his condition as “mild pedophilia,” like that is somehow better than “full blown pedophilia.”
U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt was unmoved. She sentenced Fogle to 15.5 years in prison, which was three years more than the prosecutors were seeking and eight years more than what Fogle’s defense had hoped for by agreeing to the plea bargain.
Fogle’s attorneys have not said whether they plan to appeal the sentence.
He will not be eligible for parole for 13 years, and when he does eventually get out of jail, he will be required to wear a monitoring device. He was also fined $175,000.
