While most of the world seems ready to happily move forward into a society of LGBT acceptance, there still remains a percentage of the population resisting fore various reasons — usually religious, but also sometimes just because they think gay people are “icky” (for the record, they are not).
Last week Doritos announced they were partnering with the It Gets Better Project to offer a limited edition bag of rainbow chips to people who donated at least $10 to the organization. It Gets Better was created with the intention of encouraging young LGBT people who are struggling with their sexual identity to persevere through it, because it gets better as they grow older. Founder Dan Savage has said he created Its Gets Better in response to the alarmingly high number of youth suicides in the LBGT community.
Naturally, hateful bigots were quick to attempt to publicly shame Doritos for daring to care about other humans. Mike Melgaard, internet troll extraordinaire, made a fake (but very convincing) Facebook page to reply to these idiots who complained to the official company page.

That last one really sums it up well. A lot of the hate seems to come from the older generations, who simply don’t understand that being gay is no different than being male or female, black or white. It’s just part of who are you, and that’s perfectly fine.
“I think many find [these posts] so appealing because I’m just openly calling this nonsense out for what it is,” Melgaard, the creator of the page, told The Huffington Post. “It’s amazing how many people are just waiting for the one person to come along and really say what everyone already wants to say. And, to top it off, there are those who really believe I’m a real help-desk person! I mean, it’s hilarious when you have a full out conversation with Dora and she ends it with, ‘Stop Deflecting, Doritos.’ I’m still laughing over that one… I just hope that my funny antics allow for people to get a glimpse at the serious side of this.”
We hope so too.
