Linkin Park Singer Chester Bennington Reportedly Commits Suicide

TMZ is reporting that Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington has committed suicide at the age of 41.

According to law enforcement sources, the singer hanged himself at a private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in L.A. County. His body was discovered this morning just before 9 AM PST.

Bennington is survived by his wife and 6 children.

The singer had stuggled with drug and alcohol abuse for years and had voiced suicidal thoughts in the past, citing abuse he suffered as a child at the hands of an older male.

In a tragic twist, the Linkin Park frontman was close friends with Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, who committed suicide earlier this year (today would have been Cornell’s 53rd Birthday, in fact). Bennington actually wrote an open letter to Cornell on the day of his suicide, in which he told his friend “you have inspired me in many ways you could never have known.”

Linkin Park was one of the biggest alternative bands of the early 2000s, with a string of hits including “One Step Closer,” “Crawling,” and “In the End.”
