Zombieland 2 Director Confirms Production Begins In January

The production of Zombieland 2 will finally begin in January, confirms director Ruben Fleischer.

Fans have been waiting and asking for a sequel since the release of the original Zombieland nearly a decade ago. The action-comedy turned out to be one of the most popular films of 2009, making roughly $100 million worldwide. Unfortunately, the wait for a sequel would be a long one due to a few different factors. One issue is that it took an additional year for writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to complete their script due to their focus on other projects, such as the Deadpool movie.

Recently, Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer spoke with Fandango, and expressed how excited he is to be starting the heavily-desired production of Zombieland 2, stating the following:

I’m thrilled. We’re already actually starting Zombieland. I’ve been scouting and storyboarding and getting it going, and to get to work with that cast again is just an absolute dream come true. It’s been really exciting starting to think about that movie, and to get to work with Emma, Jesse, Woody and Abigail once again is truly a dream come true. Yeah, we’re just at the very early stages, but we have an amazing script, and we’re going to start shooting in Georgia in January.”

The script is well underway, the original cast is set to return, and filming begins this January. It may have taken 10 years, but Zombieland 2 could end up being worth the wait after all!
