‘Wonder Woman’ Director Responds To Negative Reviews For ‘Suicide Squad’

Patty Jenkins took some time away from directing next year’s Wonder Woman film to see David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and shared her reaction on Twitter afterwards. Unsurprisingly, she had a much different reaction than the majority of critics who have seen the film so far:

“Uh… You guys. Super confused. Just went to the premiere of #SuicideSquad. Hadn’t seen it. It’s great! Not sort of great. GREAT! I mean…” She continued, “… I loved it. So surprised by some reviews. I don’t get it. I thought it was awesome. And NOT just because I’m in the DC world. Truly.”

Although Jenkins claims that she’s not pretending to give Ayer’s film a glowing recommendation just because she’s working on DC’s next feature film, it’s a bit difficult to take her opinion at face value. Even if Jenkins hated Suicide Squad, it’s not like she could just come out and say it, as that would only make the film’s already damaged reputation even worse.

Plus, Jenkins is probably eager to avoid studio executives hacking up her film like they did Ayer’s, so towing the company line is probably her best bet right now. Of course, there’s also the possibility that she simply really enjoyed the film, which is totally fine too!
