‘Wolverine 3’ Will Be Rated R, Plus Other New Film Revelations

Hugh Jackman is coming back for one last Wolverine movie, and it sounds like it could top all previous versions.

The biggest difference between the next film and the old films will be the rating. With the success of other R rated superhero movies like Deadpool, the studio is bringing Wolverine back to his roots, so to speak, and letting him be his true self. That’s right, producer Simon Kinberg has revealed to Collider that Wolverine 3 will also receive the R rating.

I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say about that. I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.

So not only are we (finally) getting a violent, sweary Wolverine — we’re also getting more of Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier! Also, the talk of the movie having a “Western” feel to it makes a lot of comic book fans predict the movie will adapt (at least loosely) the “Old Man Logan” storyline.

The violent, vulgar, maybe-Western-maybe-something-else Wolverine 3 is currently set to hit theaters in March 2017.
