Natalie Portman stars as astronaut losing her mind in Noah Hawley’s upcoming drama Lucy in the Sky.
Hawley’s directorial debut is loosely based on astronaut Lisa Nowak’s alleged criminal activities involving fellow astronaut William Oefelein. Back in 2007, Nowak was arrested for attempting to kidnap Colleen Shipman, a U.S. Air Force Captain who had become romantically involved with Oefelein, a man she was having an affair with. The film details Nowak’s downward spiral after returning to Earth.
Lucy in the Sky stars Portman as Lucy Cola, Jon Hamm as Mark Goodwin, Zazie Beetz as Erin Eccles, Dan Stevens as Drew Cola, Ellen Burstyn as Nana Holbrook, and Colman Domingo as Frank Paxton.
Here is a quick synopsis of the film:
An astronaut returns to Earth after a lengthy mission and begins an affair with a fellow astronaut. She heads into a downward spiral as she loses her connection to her family — a condition that can afflict those who spend a long time in space — and when her lover begins another affair with an astronaut trainee, the bottom drops out.
