DC really wants to keep its new Joker movie at the forefront of people’s minds, as there have been daily stories from the film’s set ever since director Todd Phillips first teased Joaquin Phoenix’s take on the Clown Prince of Crime early last week.
On Friday, we got our first look at Phoenix in full Joker makeup in some camera test footage but thanks to a new video released by TMZ, we have an even better look at the new clown in town.
As seen in the video above, Phoenix’s Joker and some clown-mask wearing extras (read: henchmen) are invading a Gotham City subway platform. Out of context, it’s kind of hard to tell what’s going on, but it’s still cool to see the actor in action, as you can tell that he’s already developed a distinctive walk and body language for the character. Interestingly, some viewers were able to spot signs reading “Clown4Mayor” in the background, suggesting that the titular villain will be making a run for office (definitely getting some Batman Returns vibes here).
At any rate, we’re fans of this unholy mashup of Heath Ledger and Cesar Romero’s Jokers and can’t wait to hear what kind of crazy voice Phoenix has been working on for the role. At this rate, we’re sure it’s only a matter of days until a trailer is released, even though the film a) doesn’t have a title and b) doesn’t come out until October 4, 2019.
