‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Director Teases Three Possible Character Cameos

Taika Waititi is currently busy promoting his newest film, Hunt For The Wilderpeople, but he’s still finding time to discuss his next cinematic venture, Thor: Ragnarok, and whether or not we may see cameos from a few different characters.

The most popular Thor: Ragnarok rumor by far is that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will be making an appearance in the film, spurred on by Chris Hemsworth sharing a set photo of himself holding a card with Doctor Strange’s address on it. Speaking with Digital Spy, Waititi said that he isn’t sure whether or not he can comment on Cumberbatch making a cameo, and that Hemsworth’s photo “may have just been something for the fans.” However, Waititi didn’t rule out a cameo completely. When asked whether Strange might appear in a post-credits scene, the director answered, “Might be something like that. Might be a little tease. Or maybe a tease just for people who wanted to zoom into that photo.”

The second potential cameo that Waititi has addressed is one originally brought up by IGN, who asked him whether Thor’s roommate Darryl Jacobson, introduced in a mockumentary included with Captain America: Civil War’s Blu-ray special features, might show up. “I think you probably could see him again,” Waititi said. “There may be other little pieces of that thing that everyone saw that may just be a small part of a bigger thing.”

Finally, Waititi was asked by Digital Spy if he’d be making a cameo himself in the film, as the director has a habit of appearing in his own movies. Again, he wouldn’t give a definitive answer, but it certainly sounds like he’s game to do a cameo if it makes sense. “We’ll see if any of the actors pull out and I’d maybe think about it. “Usually I find a way to crowbar myself in!”

With all the rumored cameos for Thor: Ragnarok, it may be difficult to keep track of which characters are guaranteed to make an appearance. Fortunately, Waititi did confirm one character that will definitely be in the movie:

It’s a good thing we have someone like Taika Waititi around to confirm important details like this! Thor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters November 3rd, 2017.
