The Rock’s ‘Jumanji’ Remake Isn’t About A Cursed Board Game

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, will put a modern spin on the core concept established in the 1995 original.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson showed off some footage as Sony’s CinemaCon Panel this week that revealed, among other things, that the film will revolve around a cursed video game rather than a board game like in the first film. A group of high school students stumble upon an old video game console, along with a copy of Jumanji, and after picking their characters, they become their digital avatars and get transported into the game.

Humorously, these “avatars” are actually the film’s adult cast. For instance, the preppy girl becomes Jack Black and the geeky guy is the muscle-bound Dwayne Johnson, a concept that will surely lead to all sorts of outrageous body comedy.

Johnson also spoke of the time he met the late Robin Williams, who starred in the original 1995 adventure, and how the new film will honor Williams’ legacy.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle hits theaters on December 22 and we’re 100% sure that Guns N’ Roses will appear on the soundtrack.
