The cards sure don’t seem to be stacked in Gambit’s favor recently.
After rumors a few months ago that star Channing Tatum was walking away from Fox’s film based on the popular X-Men character turned out to be false, things finally seemed to be on track for the troubled production. Unfortunately, Gambit has suffered another setback, as director Rupert Everett has left the project.
Citing a conflict with another project, the Rise of the Planet of the Apes director was quick to wish Fox and the rest of the film’s production good luck in the future in spite of his absence:
“I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project,” Wyatt said in a statement. “I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film.”
Fox has yet to comment on how this will affect the production going forward, but finding a new director will definitely take time, meaning Gambit will likely suffer further delays. At this rate, it may be some time before we get to see Tatum throw explosive cards and attempt a (surely) awful Cajun accent.
