The ‘Fast And Furious’ Franchise Has Racked Up Some Serious Damage Costs

Dom Toretto’s motto may be to live life a quarter mile at a time, but it turns out that there are expensive consequences to this philosophy.

Insurance company InsuretheGap (via THR) assessed all the damage done throughout the first seven films in the Fast and Furious franchise and determined that the real-life costs of all those car stunts, explosions and, well, more explosions Dom (Vin Diesel) and his family are so fond of pulling off amounts to about $523.2 million USD.

If you’re wondering what the single most expensive car destroyed in the franchise is, it would be the W Motors Lykan Hypersport that Dom and Brian (Paul Walker) jump through three different buildings in Abu Dhabi during Furious 7, with an estimated cost of $3.46 million (and that’s just for the car, mind you). All told, 169 different cars sustain some form of damage over the course of the franchise, while 142 are destroyed. The Fast family has also damaged 53 buildings and destroyed 31.

As might imagine, the damage costs skyrocketed once the franchise moved to straight-up action in Fast Five, with Furious 7 being the most expensive film in terms of overall damage. When it comes down to individual characters, Dom is the most reckless hero in terms of damage caused, but it’s Furious 7 villain Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) who is responsible for the most damage of any single character.

Total Damage Costs of Each Fast and Furious Film

If the explosion-heavy trailers for the upcoming Fate of the Furious are any indication, we’re sure that damage expenses are only going to trend up from here.
