Dune fans are sure to be excited by this news.
Following months of speculation, Brian Herbert (the son of Dune author Frank Herbert) confirmed on Twitter that Denis Villeneuve will direct a new adaptation of the classic sci-fi series for Legendary Pictures.
It's official — Legendary Pictures has signed the very talented Denis Villeneuve to direct the exciting new DUNE series film project.

Villeneuve is one of Hollywood’s hottest directors right now and is no stranger to science-fiction, having just released the critically-acclaimed Best Picture nominee Arrival in 2016 and currently working on Blade Runner 2049, a sequel to the 1982 Ridley Scott film due out in October. Villeneuve’s signing on to Dune is one of those rare fan dream-castings that actually pans out and it will be exciting to see what he does with the notoriously ambitious source material.

One thing’s for sure though: Villeneuve definitely doesn’t have time in his schedule to direct the next Batman movie now.
