Star Wars The Force Awakens: Luke Skywalker’s Absence is ‘No Accident’

Last week’s monster trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened up a giant can of rumors and speculation (many of which we examined in detail), but perhaps the most intriguing reveal (or lack thereof) was the complete absence of Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker from not only the trailer, but pretty much all promotional materials released so far.

As expected, the complete lockout on anything Luke-related is a calculated move. During an appearance on the red carpet for the GLSEN Respect Awards recently, director J.J. Abrams was asked about what’s going on with Luke and his response pretty much summed up what we’ve all been thinking:

“These are good questions to be asking. I can’t wait for you to find out the answer… It’s no accident.”

Clearly, Luke has a significant role in the film that’s going to (hopefully) make for one heck of a twist. Unfortunately, we still have a bit of a wait ahead of us before we see just what the elder Jedi has been up to since the end of Return of the Jedi.
