In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Star Wars: The Last Jedi star Daisy Ridley makes the surprising claim that she doesn’t see herself doing any more Star Wars movies after completing work on Episode IX.
Asked if she’d be interested in playing Rey beyond the third film in the latest Star Wars trilogy, Ridley says:
“No. For me, I didn’t really know what I was signing on to. I hadn’t read the script, but from what I could tell, it was really nice people involved, so I was just like, ‘Awesome.’ Now I think I am even luckier than I knew then, to be part of something that feels so like coming home now.”
The interviewer then presses her, remarking that it kind of sounds like she does want to play Rey again, to which Ridley responds:
“No. No, no, no. I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So in my head, it’s three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out.”
While Ridley may not be ready to return so soon after wrapping Episode IX, she doesn’t rule out the possibility of playing Rey again decades from now, much like the franchise’s original stars did with this new Star Wars trilogy:
“Who knows? I honestly feel like the world may end in the next 30 years, so, if in 30 years we are not living underground in a series of interconnected cells … then sure. Maybe. But again, it’s like, who knows. Because the thing I thought was so amazing, was people really wanted it. And it was done by people who really love it.”
Well, there you have it: barring the end of the world, Daisy Ridley is open to returning to a galaxy far, far away in a few decades’ time. In the meantime, we only have to wait two more weeks to see the actress reprise her role as Rey in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which hits theaters on December 15th.
