Ryan Reynolds Offers Possible Hint To Cable Casting In ‘Deadpool 2’

Despite still being a ways off, the rumor mill will not slow down for Deadpool 2 (it probably helps that the original film is emerging as a possible Oscar contender). Of course, it also helps that Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is a marketing machine, constantly appearing in character for promotional stunts and throwing out tidbits of info about the sequel on social media.

One of the biggest questions surrounding the sequel is who will be cast as the character Cable, who is confirmed to be a major part of Deadpool 2. Just last week, Reynolds gave an update of sorts on casting rumors, stating that they’re still working on it and won’t announce anything until they’re ready. While that is very much still the case, a new post on Reynolds’ Instagram has fans speculating that a certain veteran actor has taken the role:

Wolvie. Bond. Wade.

As you can see above, Ryan Reynolds posted a picture of himself sitting with Hugh Jackman and Pierce Brosnan. While it’s unsurprising to see Reynolds hanging out with Jackman, since they both star in the same film universe, Brosnan’s presence is peculiar, as the trio are not known to be working on anything together at present. Although Reynolds captioned the photo “Wolve. Bond. Wade,” referencing each actor’s most iconic role, the poses the three actors are striking suggest that they are hiding something, which has led to speculation that Brosnan could be playing Cable.

Jackman, for his part, also posted a similar photo on Twitter:

While Brosnan doesn’t really fit the physical characteristics of Cable, his status as an older action star could make him an unlikely fit for the role. With the first Deadpool focusing so heavily on meta comedy and fourth wall-breaking antics, Brosnan’s past as 007 could potentially be used as material for a whole bunch of jokes in Deadpool 2.

Still, it’s important to stress that this is all speculative right now and there could be all sorts of explanations for Brosnan’s hangout sessions with Jackman and Reynolds. At the same time, seeing Cable played by Brosnan could be a really interesting take on the character if done right and feels like just the type of stunt casting that a franchise like this would relish.
