RUMOR: Ewan McGregor In Talks To Return To ‘Star Wars’ Universe

While it was recently confirmed that Ewan McGregor recorded a line of dialogue for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the rumor mill is churning up reports that the Scottish actor is in talks to fully reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode VIII.

The rumor comes courtesy of a Tweet sent out by Kristian Harloff of Schmoes Know and Collider Jedi Council that cautions to take the rumor with a grain of salt:

If true, this would mark the first time McGregor has played Kenobi in Force ghost form, filling the shoes of Alec Guinness from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Episode VIII director Rian Johnson is currently preparing to start shooting the new film in the coming weeks at Pinewood Studios in London. So far, Force Awakens stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, and Oscar Isaac are all confirmed to be returning, with Oscar winner Benicio del Toro expected to play a new antagonist alongside Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren.

It would be great to see McGregor return, but it does raise the question of whether or not he would be aged up to better resemble Guinness’s Kenobi ghost. It would be kind of weird if Obi-Wan was younger than Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker…
