Captain America: Civil War

Robert Downey Jr. Considers ‘Captain America: Civil War’ An Iron Man Sequel

Although there’s still the possibility of an Iron Man 4 being made, recent comments made by star Robert Downey Jr. suggest that the upcoming Marvel movie Captain America: Civil War is practically an Iron Man sequel in its own right.

Speaking to USA Today, Downey said that Civil War could very well end up replacing Iron Man 4.

“In a way it’s Cap 3 but for me it’s like my little Iron Man 4 and then it’s back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that’s how it is until it changes. If it changes.”

Downey’s contract with Marvel ends after 2019’s Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2, so it’s impossible to say whether or not the actor will sign on for more films after that. There is currently no plan for an official Iron Man sequel before the next Avengers films, so it looks like Civil War will do double duty as a Iron Man film. Given how prominently Iron Man features into the story, it’s safe to say that we’ll have no shortage of Tony Stark during Marvel’s suite of Phase Three films.
