REPORT: ‘X-Men: First Class’ Director WB’s Top Choice To Direct ‘Man of Steel 2’

Warner Bros. is reportedly pursuing Kingsman: The Secret Service and X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn to helm a sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel.

According to a report from Collider — which, it must be stressed, has yet to be confirmed — Vaughn is in early talks with the studio to direct Man of Steel 2. The report also notes that even if WB can’t get a deal in place for Man of Steel 2, they would still like Vaughn to direct another movie in the DC Extended Universe.

Toby Emmerich, the new president of Warner Bros., is said to be very interested in having Vaughn join the DCEU and was reportedly one of the key players in the deal that brought Matt Reeves on to direct The Batman. Landing Vaughn would represent another key piece in WB’s initiative to make the DCEU a filmmaker-driven franchise.

Reports surfaced last year that Warner Bros. had placed a sequel to Man of Steel “into active development” and that it was a “top priority for the studio” to get the character of Superman right after the mixed reaction to Man of Steel.

The next entry in the DCEU is Wonder Woman, slated for release on June 2.
