REPORT: Samuel L. Jackson Is Not Signed On To Play Nick Fury In Any Future Marvel Movies

Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury has been a mainstay of the Marvel Cinematic Universe from its very inception, as he was the man responsible for getting Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and the rest of the Avengers together in the first place. However, Fury has been M.I.A. since his appearance in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, with Jackson conspicuously absent from last year’s Captain America: Civil War, prompting many fans to wonder what’s going on with the character and when they might see Jackson reprise the role.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel’s Kevin Feige made the announcement that Nick Fury will return in 2019’s Captain Marvel, which is set in the 1990s … but according to Jackson, he hasn’t received any official confirmation on that news. “I haven’t signed a contract, haven’t seen a script,” the actor revealed during a recent interview with Yahoo. “I talked to Brie [Larson] the other day, she didn’t say anything. She’s the only person I know that’s actually in the movie.”

While it’s likely that Marvel is still working on the logistics of bringing Jackson on board, the actor also confirmed that he isn’t in any other future Marvel movies and while there’s nothing here to suggest that there’s any kind of rift between the studio and Jackson, it’s hard not to get the impression that he’s a little bitter about the situation: “I wasn’t in the ‘superhero argument movie [Civil War], I’m not in Avengers 3 and 4. They’re them now, and they haven’t called me yet. They wouldn’t let me go to Black Panther-ville, so it’s kind like how you gonna make a black Marvel movie and not let Nick Fury show up in it?”

Hopefully Marvel and Jackson can get this stuff sorted out soon, as it would be a shame to not have Fury in the MCU going forward after being such an important part of its early stages.
