Apparently the first trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 is being released sometime this week, which might explain why Warner Bros. just dropped a brief plot synopsis for the upcoming sci-fi sequel.
Here’s the synopsis, by way of The Playlist:
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
Many have already pointed out that this sounds an awful lot like the plot of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but we’re willing to bet that Harrison Ford’s Deckard is going to show up a little earlier than the final scene of the film and will probably get some actual lines (sorry Mark Hamill)! Villeneueve had one of the best films of 2016 with his thought-provoking sci-fi film Arrival, so his Blade Runner sequel is easily one of our most anticipated films of 2017.
We’ll find out on October 6th whether Villeneuve can deliver a worthy follow-up to Ridley Scott’s beloved 1982 original.
