Pacific Rim 2 is officially a go, with Guillermo del Toro, the director of the first Pacific Rim, confirming Deadline’s earlier report that the film is back development after being put on hold last September.
Met w DeKnight and we are all so happy with our choice to take Pac Rim 2to where we know it can go!!

Directorial duties this time around will be handled by Steven S. DeKnight, who was the lead writer on the first season of Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix. Pacifice Rim 2 will mark DeKnight’s directorial debut, with del Toro serving as producer.
Pacific Rim didn’t exactly light up the domestic box office, but it performed exceptionally well overseas, grossing $305 million, with $111 million of that coming from China alone. Given that Legendary Entertainment, which produced the first film, was sold to Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group just last month, it’s hardly surprising that the sequel was greenlit again.
