Netflix made a huge purchase on the weekend, acquiring the comic-book publisher, Millarworld, a company launched by Mark Millar back in 2004. Millar is the creative genius behind the characters and stories of Kingsman, Old Man Logan, Wanted and Kick-Ass.
According to Variety, after acquiring the property, Ted Sarandos, Netflix chef content officer praised the work of Millar and compared him to a legend in the comic world.
“As creator and re-inventor of some of the most memorable stories and characters in recent history, ranging from Marvel’s The Avengers to Millarworld’s Kick-Ass, Kingsman, Wanted and Reborn franchises, Mark is as close as you can get to a modern-day Stan Lee.”

While the details of the deal were not disclosed, it should be noted that this is the third time a major comic-book company has been purchased. Back in 1968, Warner Bros. bought DC Comics and most recently, Marvel was purchased by Disney in 2009.
Ultimately, this allows Netflix to develop movies and TV shows for both adults and children, using a portfolio of work that desperately deserves some attention. It should also be noted that Millarworld will continue to develop and create new stories and characters under the Netflix name – something that Millar is very excited about.
“I’m so in love with what Netflix is doing and excited by their plans,” Millar said. “Netflix is the future, and Millarworld couldn’t have a better home.”
At the end of the day, this seems like the perfect pairing and everyone with a Netflix account should be really excited about what’s in store.
